Student Dress Code |

Clothing/Dress Code - All students are expected to maintain good grooming
habits and appropriate dress. Clothing
should promote a positive image, be of acceptable social standards, and should
not be offensive or distracting to the learning environment. Clothing should be suitable for the age
group, the time of year, and the activities involved. Weather permitting students will go outside
for recess every day. During cold
weather, students should wear coats, gloves, and hats.
The school administrative staff reserves the right to rule on clothing
fads, symbols, and articles. If the
school administration deems an article of clothing inappropriate, then a
student should not wear it to school or child care.
The following clothing should not be worn:
v
No
muscle shirts or shirts with large armhole openings that expose undergarment
areas.
v
No hats
are to be worn inside.
v
No
halter-tops, tube tops, fishnet shirts, or strapless dresses.
v
No
karate clothing
v
No
sunglasses
v
No
make-up, colored hair spray, colored hair gel, cologne, perfume.
v
No flip-flops, or
“jellies.”
v
We
prefer that sandals not be worn. Shoes
should fit correctly and be secured to the feet properly. Shoes must have a backing and be secured or
strapped to the feet. Sneakers must be worn for P.E.
v
No
high-heeled shoes.
v
No
platform shoes.
v
No
glitter lotion.
v
No
clogs or crocs can be worn.
v
No
shoes with built in roller skates or wheels.
Additional dress code restrictions for 1st – 5th
graders:
v No tank tops.
v No spaghetti straps. Straps should
be at least 2” in width. No shirts or blouses that expose the midriff or navel. Students should be able to raise their arms over their heads and the midriff should be
covered. No slacks, jeans, shorts, or
skirts that sag below the waistline or which must be held in place with the
hands.
v No shorts, slacks, or skirts with writing
across the back.
v Girls in fourth and fifth grades may wear hemmed walking shorts, skorts, split skirts, capris, skirts or dresses reaching to
the knees or just above the knees.
NO short shorts or short skirts allowed. If leggings or tights are worn with a dress,
skirt, or shorts the dress/skirt/shorts must meet dress code requirements.
v Boys in the fourth and fifth grades may wear hemmed walking shorts
reaching at least to the knees or just above the knees. No short shorts
allowed.
We ask your
cooperation with the above dress code and policy: The first time a student in first – fifth
grade wears inappropriate clothing, the teacher will send home a reminder note
of the school dress code. The second
time there is an incident with an unacceptable outfit,
the teacher will notify the parent. If
there should be a third occurrence, the parent will be notified to bring
appropriate clothing. If there continues to be a dress code violation after the
3rd offense, the student will remain in the office and the parent
will be called. Continued violation may result in suspension for the day.
Gloria Dei Lutheran School reserves the right to make the decision as to a
student’s outfit being acceptable/unacceptable
according to our dress code. If a parent
is in doubt as to the appropriateness of an outfit, it should not be worn. The administration will not debate the issue
with a parent; the school administration’s decision will be final. When a student wears clothing that does not
meet code, the student may be asked to change into clothing provided by the
school that meets dress code guidelines.
Please label your child’s name on clothing and other items.
Personal items which are not required
school supplies should not be brought to school.
Middle School Dress Code

Electronic Devices
Personal
electronic devices including, but not limited to, cell phones, Ipods, radios, cameras, (unless needed for computer class),
pagers, “Gameboys,” etc. are a distraction to the education process and should
not be brought to school. If a student
needs a cell phone for after-school purposes, it must be stored in the school
locker on vibrate during school hours.
If a student has electronic devices that are not required for class,
they will be taken by the teacher and given to the school office. Items will be
held in the school office until a parent can pick them up. Kindles and Nooks are allowed with parent
permission.
