PARENTS, THIS IS AN IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT OUR SCHOOL SCHEDULE DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER/SNOW DAYS. WE ASK THAT YOU CHECK THE INFORMATIONAL RESOURCES WE HAVE PROVIDED BEFORE CONTACTING THE SCHOOL FOR INFORMATION. DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL BEFORE CHECKING THESE RESOURCES. YOUR COOPERATION DURING THESE SITUATIONS WILL BE APPRECIATED.

* If Hampton City Schools close, Gloria Dei School follows the same decision. Once you hear on either a radio station or television station that Hampton City Schools are closed for the day, know that Gloria Dei School follows that decision. We do not make up snow days.

* If Hampton City Schools delay the opening of school, Gloria Dei School follows the same decision. If your child attends Gloria Dei’s preschool, prekindergarten, or kindergarten with a noon dismissal, it is your decision on delayed opening days whether you choose to bring your child for 1½ to 2 hours of school. If your child does not attend, it will not be considered an absence on the report card.

* If Poquoson OR Tabb OR York County Schools delay the opening of school, Gloria Dei School buses will run on the same schedule in these areas. Example: If Poquoson delays school for one hour, expect the Gloria Dei bus to arrive one hour later than normal. If you reside in an area in Hampton adjacent to these areas, the same delay or closing schedule will be in effect. Examples of the Hampton areas are Sanlun Lakes, Magruder Boulevard, Belgrade, Samantha Lakes, Bethel Manor, etc. If you have any questions about this policy, please call Brenda Bailey, Transportation Coordinator, before the snow day.

* If Hampton City Schools decide to dismiss early, Gloria Dei may or may not follow the same procedure. You need to listen to the television or check our website for this revised schedule.

* Should your child ride a 3:00 p.m. bus, we may make an in-house decision to send your child home during the noon dismissal if you live in Poquoson, Tabb, or York County. We will make every effort to contact you with this decision prior to the 12:00 p.m. delivery. You can help us by being near your phone.

* It is a very unusual situation when Gloria Dei Lutheran School’s child care program is canceled due to inclement weather or snow. However, if conditions are severe, listen to television stations WVEC (Channel 13), WTKR (Channel 3), and WAVY (Channel 10) for this announcement. Also, check our web page for information (gloriadeilutheranschool.net).

It is important that you use the resources available to you through the television and website for needed information. Do not tie up the school’s phone lines for this information!! If information is not available on these resources, a decision has not yet been made. Be patient and keep listening.

Should school close and child care is in operation, our hope is that you would pick up your child(ren) as early in the afternoon as your schedule permits.
